About Love Tea
We're so happy to have Love Tea join The Conscious Store family. We are now stocking 8 of their most popular teas online and hope to expand the range. We love their teas and know you will too.
Love Tea was founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2006, by Naturopathy students Emma Watson and Damien Amos. Emma wanted to create beautiful products that were beneficial for customer’s health and promoted wellbeing. Damien was passionate about organics, working directly with growing communities and looking after our planet.
After experimenting with organic teas, aromatic spices and therapeutic herbs for a number of years, Emma and Damien decided to make their tea obsession a full-time project. By 2012, the range included more than 20 different blends, and the business name was changed from Love Chai to Love Tea, to reflect the wide range of products on offer.
Today, Love Tea is a small group of dedicated folk who share the passion of making the world a better place.
We particularly love their dedication to minimising their environmental impact. All packaging is designed thoughtfully and consciously.
All Love Tea box packaging is made from post-consumer recycled cardboard, to reduce the amount of plantation timber utilised to make the stock. This also helps recycle the already abundant amount of cardboard produced in the world today. The boxes are printed on using vegetable based inks, to reduce the amount of harmful solvents used, which can often have unintended harmful effects on the environment.
These boxes (and the clear cello pouch inside) will easily break down in your home compost in a few months.
You might know that many tea bags on the market are made using plastic. Love Tea's pyramid tea bags are made from a biodegradable plant based material called Soilon which is not plastic. The team at Love Tea have personally tested these tea bags in their own home compost, and witnessed them breakdown. It’s important to note, they will definitely take longer than other compost items to decompose. These Soilon bags have met all compostability standards in Japan, Europe and North America. However, the manufacturers recommend commercial composting as a quicker alternative to address this longer time of breakdown.
The clear pouch that holds all tea products (loose leaf and tea bags) is made from a plant based cellophane material called NatureFlex. This is not a fossil fuel based polypropylene (as is often used with food packaging.) This too can be placed in your home compost and will successfully breakdown in a few months.
We hope you love Love Tea as much as we do.
